Turkish ambassador advises Tanzanian businessmen to tap iron and coal wealth!

The newly Turkish Ambassador to Tanzania, Ali Davutoglu has advised local businessmen to use the available resources effectively so as to achieve the country’s social-economic objectives.

Speaking to Tanzanian businessmen who arrived recently from a tour to Turkey, he said, the business community should effectively use the massive resources of iron and coal found in Tanzania to build the construction industry.

Davutoglu also said that Turkey has developed its construction industry by using own iron and coal.

“My call to you businessmen who are in the construction industry is to use iron and coal efficiently so as to develop your businesses,” he added.

He said that Tanzania is endowed with huge deposits of iron and coal that could be used to develop its various sectors of economy.

“When used effectively, iron and coal will bring Tanzania to another level of development. My country Turkey has used these resources effectively and is now among the developed in the world. We are also the second largest exporter of iron and coal,” he said.

However, the ambassador also told investors in agriculture that Tanzania has 24 percent of arable land to cultivate but it only utilizes 4 percent, saying he did not know the reason why such huge land is lying idle.

“If you use modern agriculture in 24 percent of the land that is arable, I believe the sector would develop and increase the country’s economic status,” he said.

The Ambassador emphasised to the businessmen to implement in action what they learnt in Turkey for the benefits of all Tanzanians.

Rehema Friendship and Solidarity Trust, the non governmental organisation (NGO) which facilitated the trip to Turkey for training on industry, manufacturing and construction sectors, said the tours were introduced so as to assist the medium business community in the country to enhance effective interpersonal skills.

The organisation’s chairman, Muhammed Asir Karabacak said “The objective of the trip was to enhance effective interpersonal skills which would complement the efforts already achieved in running small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This training is a result of good relationship between Turkey and Tanzanian governments”
The training of two businessmen groups from Tanzania took place in June and September 2012.
Yassin Ally, among the 20 participant of the programme noted that the skills acquired would assist them in understanding better ways of running their businesses.

“We have seen the Turkish businesspeople using light materials in construction whose costs are reasonable and the materials are stronger,” he said.
